Huddersfield has been a market town since Anglo-Saxon times, and the beautiful market building has stood on Brook Street, since the late 1800s, initially used as a wholesale market.
While Saturdays remain a highlight for Huddersfield Market, the historic building also has an important role to play throughout the week. The proposed improvements focus on helping the market become a more consistently popular and welcoming destination as part of the wider Huddersfield Blueprint.

Three years ago, traders at Queensgate Market prepared for one of the biggest changes in Huddersfield’s history. The closure of the market was a major moment for the town, for customers, and especially for the small businesses who had made it their home for many years.

Small Business Saturday is a chance to celebrate the independent shops, makers, cafés, service providers and start-ups that play such an important role in our local communities.

Funding has been approved to drive innovation and support businesses in the health, wellbeing, and digital sectors. 

The future of selected land and property assets within the council’s estate has been agreed following a Cabinet meeting.
